PufferCut is live on the Shopify App Store
PufferCut is now available for Shopify merchants who want to create ready-to-use product videos from existing catalog media.
PufferCut is live on the Shopify App Store.
That is the announcement. The more useful question is what that actually means for a merchant deciding whether this workflow belongs in their store.
We built PufferCut for a practical reason: many Shopify stores need more product video than they have time, process, or budget to produce manually. A catalog can contain hundreds of useful products, but the video workflow is often still shaped like a one-off creative project. Pick a product, gather assets, write copy, resize for channels, export, upload, repeat.
PufferCut is an attempt to turn that into a more repeatable commerce workflow.
The merchant problem behind the launch
What we keep seeing is not that merchants do not understand the value of video. It is that the operational path from product listing to usable video is still too slow.
Typical store situation:
- the product photos already exist
- the product title and price are already in Shopify
- the store already has brand colors, logo, and offer language
- the product still has no usable video for the PDP, launch campaign, or ad mix
That gap creates downstream problems:
- product pages stay more abstract than they need to be
- launch campaigns have thinner creative coverage
- paid channels depend too much on static images
- routine catalog updates become hard to support with motion assets
That is the workflow gap PufferCut is designed to address.
What PufferCut is for
PufferCut is for merchants who want to turn ordinary Shopify catalog material into short, usable product videos without building a full editing workflow from scratch.
The strongest fit is usually a store that already has:
- a real catalog, not just one concept product
- usable product photos
- a need for repeatable output across several products or formats
- a desire to support product pages, launches, offers, or paid creative with more motion
It is less about replacing high-end video production and more about solving the repeatable mid-funnel and lower-funnel content job.
What you can do today
After installing PufferCut, you can choose a Shopify product and use the product details your team already maintains: photos, title, price, product context, and store branding.
From there, PufferCut helps you:
- choose a commerce-ready template
- tune copy, offer text, call to action, colors, logo, and format
- preview the video before you render it
- create vertical, square, or landscape versions
- download the finished video or use Shopify Files workflows where available
The goal is not to replace every piece of creative production. It is to make everyday product video easier to create, especially for product pages, product launches, offers, social posts, and catalog refreshes.
Why we started with Shopify products
Product data is already a creative brief.
The product title says what the shopper is considering. The price and offer set the buying context. The photos show the item. The store brand gives the video a visual home. PufferCut brings those pieces together so merchants can move from listing to video plan faster.
That matters because many product videos do not need to be cinematic. They need to answer a buyer question clearly:
- What is this product?
- Why is it useful?
- What detail should I notice?
- What should I do next?
When a video answers those questions cleanly, it can support the product page instead of becoming another disconnected marketing asset.
The kinds of stores that benefit most
PufferCut is usually most useful for stores that face one or more of these patterns:
- a catalog with enough products that custom editing becomes hard to repeat
- launches that need several cuts from the same product setup
- practical products that benefit from use, scale, or compatibility clarity
- paid campaigns that need more creative coverage than static images alone
- a team that wants faster workflow rather than a heavier post-production stack
That does not mean every product needs video. It means many stores need a faster way to make the right videos when video is clearly useful.
Where PufferCut fits in the workflow
PufferCut sits between the product catalog and the finished motion asset.
In practical terms, that means it can support:
- a product-page video that makes a PDP easier to evaluate
- a launch-week reveal or demo clip
- a short ad-ready cut built from existing product media
- a repeatable catalog workflow for similar products
The strongest use case is not "make every video imaginable." It is "make the next useful product video without restarting the whole creative process."

Plans for different catalog stages
PufferCut launches with Free, Plus, and Pro plans through Shopify billing.
The Free plan is there so merchants can install the app, test the editor, and make the first product videos before turning video into a bigger workflow. Plus is built for stores that want repeatable product-page and campaign output. Pro is for larger catalogs, seasonal refreshes, and higher-volume video production.
Shopify shows paid plan terms before confirmation, so merchants can review the trial, price, and subscription details before approving an upgrade.
When this is not the right next move
PufferCut is not the first fix for every store.
If the bigger issue is weak product positioning, poor source photography, unclear pricing, or low proof, then stronger merchandising basics may matter before a faster video workflow does.
Likewise, if a store only needs one hero video every few months, a custom production process may still be enough.
The app makes the most sense when the bottleneck is repeatable product-video output.
What comes next
Launch is the starting line for the product, not the finish line.
We will keep improving template readability, product media handling, brand defaults, product-page workflows, and the parts of video creation that usually slow merchant teams down.
