Shopify Permissions PufferCut Uses

Understand the Shopify permissions PufferCut asks for and why they are needed to create product videos.

PufferCut needs Shopify permissions so it can read the product material used in your videos and save finished video files back to your store. Shopify shows the requested permissions before installation or reauthorization.

Current app permissions

PufferCut's default Shopify permissions are:

  • read_products: read product titles, images, variants, pricing, and product context used in video drafts.
  • write_products: attach generated video files to the selected product when you use product-page publishing.
  • read_files: view eligible Shopify Files that can be used for logos, media, and saved assets.
  • write_files: upload finished videos and app-managed media to Shopify Files.

Why product access is needed

PufferCut creates videos from product information already in your catalog. The editor needs product names, prices, images, and related product media so the preview can match what shoppers see on your storefront.

If a product has missing or private media, PufferCut may not be able to build a complete preview. Start with a product that has clear images and accurate price information.

Why file access is needed

Finished videos are stored as video files. File access lets PufferCut upload completed renders to Shopify Files and, when available, associate the video file with the product page.

File access may also be used for brand assets such as uploaded logos.

Reauthorizing after permission changes

If PufferCut adds or changes a Shopify permission, Shopify may ask the store owner or an authorized staff member to approve the updated permissions before the app opens normally.

If you cannot approve the new permissions, ask the store owner to review the app from Shopify admin. See troubleshoot app access for common access checks.

What PufferCut does not need

PufferCut is built around product video creation. The app does not need payment card details, Shopify passwords, or customer passwords in support requests. Never send sensitive payment information to support.
