Create Your First Product Video

Pick a Shopify product, choose a template, review the copy, preview, render, and download your first PufferCut video.

Your first video should be simple: one product, one clear buyer message, and one format. You can create more versions after you confirm the first render looks right.

1. Choose a product

Open the editor and select a product from your Shopify catalog. Start with a product that has clear images, a descriptive title, and accurate pricing.

PufferCut uses this product data to prepare the video draft. If the product does not appear, check troubleshoot app access and product media that works best.

2. Pick a selling angle

Choose a template based on the job of the video:

  • Product showcase for a clear product introduction.
  • Launch story for a new item or seasonal feature.
  • Premium offer for a focused promotion.
  • Gallery carousel when you want to show several product angles.
  • CTA close when the main job is to move shoppers to the next action.

Templates work best when the product has enough images for the scenes the template expects.

3. Choose a format

Pick one format for the first render. Square is a good default for compact social and product-card use. Landscape is often easier for product-page video players. Short Form works for vertical placements.

See supported video formats and sizes for the exact output dimensions.

4. Review the generated content

Before rendering, check the product title, offer copy, call to action, and any template text. Keep the message direct. A strong first video usually answers one buyer question instead of explaining every product detail.

For copy help, see edit copy and calls to action.

5. Preview before rendering

Use preview to check:

  • product crop
  • image fit
  • text length
  • brand colors
  • logo placement
  • offer accuracy
  • call-to-action readability

If text looks crowded, shorten the copy or choose a template with fewer text areas. Previewing does not use a render.

6. Render the video

When the preview looks right, start a render. Rendering happens in the background, so the video may move through draft, rendering, ready, or failed states.

Starting a render uses one render from your monthly allowance. Learn more in render allowances and failed renders.

7. Download or use the finished video

When the render is ready, download the .mp4 file or use the available publishing action. If you want the video on a product page, read use videos on Shopify product pages.

Good first-video checklist

  • The product is recognizable in the first few seconds.
  • The copy is short enough to read.
  • The call to action matches your store goal.
  • The format matches the channel where you plan to use the video.
  • The price, offer, and product details are accurate.
