Product media that works best for videos
Choose the Shopify product images and media that lead to clearer previews, stronger product-page videos, and fewer weak renders.
PufferCut can create videos from ordinary Shopify product media, but better source images make the preview easier to read and the finished video easier to reuse.
Start with clear product photos
Choose products with images where the product is recognizable at small sizes. Product videos are often viewed in feeds, product galleries, or mobile screens, so the first frame should be understandable without zooming in.
Good source images usually have:
- a product that fills enough of the frame
- clean lighting
- minimal background clutter
- accurate color
- enough resolution for cropping
- at least two usable product angles when possible
Use more than one image when you can
Multiple images give templates more material to work with. A first video can still work with one or two images, but products with several photos can support more visual variation.
Useful image sets include:
- a front or hero product photo
- a detail photo showing material, texture, or feature
- a scale or lifestyle photo
- a packaging or bundle photo
- a variant photo if color or size matters
When to use the current media and when to capture one more asset
Proceed with the current media set when:
- the product is already recognizable
- the first frame is clear at small sizes
- at least one image proves a useful buying point
- the format crop does not destroy the message
Capture one more asset first when:
- size is still ambiguous
- the product needs a use action to make sense
- the material or finish is central to the sale
- every image is basically the same angle
Avoid images that create layout problems
Some product media can make a video harder to read:
- very wide images used in vertical formats
- tiny products on large white backgrounds
- text-heavy product images
- low-resolution images
- images with important details near the edge
- inconsistent backgrounds across every image
If the preview crops an important part of the product, try a different format, template, or product image before rendering.
Use product titles and pricing deliberately
PufferCut can pull the product title and price from Shopify. Keep titles clear and avoid relying on internal catalog names if shoppers would not understand them.
If a product title is long, shorten the on-screen copy in the editor before you render. Short text usually reads better than a full catalog title.
First-video media checklist
- The product is visible within the first second.
- The product does not blend into the background.
- The crop still works in the selected format.
- Any sale, bundle, or variant message is accurate.
- The call to action matches the destination, such as product page or ad.
