Supported product video sizes and formats
Compare PufferCut output sizes, aspect ratios, and the best use cases for Shopify product pages, ads, and social placements.
PufferCut supports several commerce-friendly video formats. Choose the format based on where the video will be used, then preview it before rendering because text and product composition can change between aspect ratios.
Social and product formats
| Format | Size | Aspect ratio | Common use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Square | 1080 x 1080 | 1:1 | Instagram feeds, product cards, compact social posts |
| Portrait | 1080 x 1350 | 4:5 | Mobile feeds and Pinterest-style placements |
| Landscape | 1920 x 1080 | 16:9 | Product-page players, desktop placements, YouTube-style embeds |
| Short Form | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 | Stories, reels, Shorts, and other vertical placements |

Output file type
Renders are created as .mp4 videos using H.264 at 30 frames per second. The
editor names downloads from the product title and selected format when possible.
Choosing a format
Use one format for your first render. After you confirm that the product, copy, and brand settings look right, render additional versions for other channels.
For a product page, start with Landscape or Square depending on your theme's media layout. For stories, reels, and Shorts, start with Short Form. For display ads, choose the exact Google display format that matches the placement.
When to use each format
- Use Landscape when the product page is the main destination and the media gallery has enough width.
- Use Square when you want the first test asset to travel across multiple surfaces with minimal rework.
- Use Portrait when mobile feed presentation matters more than PDP reuse.
- Use Short Form when the clip is mainly for stories, reels, or Shorts.
Preview every format separately
Do not assume a square video will translate perfectly into vertical or wide formats. Check:
- product crop
- text wrapping
- logo placement
- price and offer readability
- call-to-action visibility
If a format feels crowded, shorten the copy or choose a simpler template before rendering.
Common format mistakes
- publishing a vertical social cut directly into a narrow PDP gallery
- choosing a wide format when the product needs a tighter crop to stay legible
- assuming the same text length will work across every aspect ratio
- optimizing for reach first instead of the actual buyer question
